Behavior Evaluations Consultations
Behavior Consultations are conducted by Canine Behavior Specialist Tyler Muto. Tyler specializes in aggression and socialization, and consults with dog owners to resolve various forms of pathological behavior.
Behavior problems are complex and every dog/owner situation is unique. During the evaluation, Tyler will thoroughly assess each dog, as well as the dog-human relationship for a number of factors: What is the dog’s disposition? How much of the behavior is genetic versus learned? What factors in the dog’s environment might be contributing to the behavior? What is the dog responsive to and where can we find leverage to create the change we need? Is the way you are living with your dog potentially contributing to their imbalance?
The evaluation can last several hours, sometimes up to a full day depending on the nature of the case. You will meet with Tyler around 9:00am, and Tyler will conduct a brief interview with you to gather the case history. Based on this interview, Tyler will determine whether he wants you to stay throughout the process, or leave the dog for the day so that he can assess your dogs behavior independently of owner influence and begin developing a strategy. If Tyler decides to have you leave the dog, you will return around 3:00pm for the consultation portion of the assessment, which can last 1-2 hours.
In many cases Tyler is able to give you practical and effective advice about changes you can make right away to start seeing progress. Tyler’s goal is always to help you to see the world from your dog’s perspective. When you can understand how your dog thinks and interprets the world, you will be in a much better position to resolve the behavior issues.
Although a Behavior Consultation is not required prior to enrolling in one of our other programs, in some cases, Tyler will recommend the most efficient path forward involving our other training options.
*Note that the Board and Train program will include the same type of assessment as the Consultation while the dogs are here at our facility. All Board and Train dogs are assessed regularly throughout their stay to ensure the optimal approach is being used, and owners receive lessons at the end of each week. The Board and Train program is the most thorough program we offer, as the extended time the dog is here allows for a more in depth analysis of their behavior. (In this context the assessment/consultation is spread out throughout the dog’s stay, not conducted in a single extended session like the behavior consultation.)

For those who do not live in the Buffalo area, Tyler can conduct consultations via phone. Once your consultation is scheduled, Tyler recommends that you record some video of the presenting behavior and send it to us either via email or by uploading it to youtube (can be set up as a private link). Tyler will review the footage prior to the call. During the call Tyler will conduct a very thorough interview to help him asses the root causes of the behavior. At the conclusion of the call, Tyler will give you practice steps to take toward resolving the behavior.
Phone Consultations: $300

What People are Saying:
(The following testimonials are real, and can all be found on our Google and Facebook pages along with others.)
“Absolutely life changing. If you want results (and are willing to put into immediate practice what they teach you) you must not look anywhere else. Seriously, stop looking around now and contact K9 connection”
“Had the privilege of meeting Tyler and attended his Sydney workshop when he was out here in Australia. Tyler has an incredible dog mind with such a thoughtful approach.”
“I know it’s only been a few days since I’ve brought Wally home but I am completely over the moon with happiness already. He’s truly a different dog. Everything about him, including the look in his eyes, has changed. He seems so much more relaxed and truly happy. Today we passed by a male boxer who didn’t seem too happy when he saw Wally. He was lunging and barking. I gave Wally some more space away from the other dog and he didn’t even flinch. He just continued walking directly by my side.”
“K9 connection is an answer to prayer! My husband and I adopted a rescue dog, Otto, who we thought had a calm, relaxed demeanor, but after 3 weeks, he suddenly flicked a switch into a fear aggressive monster. He had bitten several of our friends and had some heart-pounding near disasters with children. We immediately signed Otto up for private lessons at another local training center, but nothing changed. We were saddened by our results, but knew there had to be something better….and there is! K9 Connection! Using their techniques, Otto has become a confident, obedient dog and we are amazed by the results! Now we are able to invite people over, go to new places, and take more adventures together. Otto is a happier dog! My advice: sign-up, do what they say, do the homework, and don’t give up on your dog! Your dog deserves a better life!”
“K9 Connection gave us our lives back. They taught our 2 rescue dogs how to behave while also teaching us how to be the best owners possible. They follow through with any and all questions and always return calls. Our dogs “failed” out of obedience school, were rejected from day cares and we felt absolutely hopeless. K9 sees the potential in all dogs and helps you and your dogs succeed.”
“I cannot recommend K9 connection enough. We first went to Tyler back in 2010 when our English mastiff was entirely unmanageable and out of control with stranger and dog aggression. Several other trainers had turned us down and our own vet gave us little hope that we could turn things around. I could not take him outside by myself for fear he would drag me down the street to get to anything that moved.”
“I first did an online leash reactivity course with Tyler via Leerburg, and finally had to chance meet him in person at a series of seminars in Australia. I can truely say, this guy knows his stuff. His assessment of dogs, people and situations is spot on and his advise straight forward and very applicable. Tyler is very compassionate and passionate about dogs and the work he is doing and is very empathic in the way he works with people. Tyler has immensely helped my dog, and me to establish our amazing relationship. And we fixed the leash reactivity too :) Thanks a million, mate. We learned so much from you.”
“Tyler Muto is one of the most gifted and generous teachers in the dog training world.
His mission is not only to teach dog owners but also dog trainers to provide the most clear, consistent and fair training possible. He puts his whole heart into his work and that is reflected by the amazing work his staff produces too. If you are struggling, Tyler and the K9 Connection team are the people to help. I can not recommend them enough. If you are a dog trainer, learning from Tyler is a must. You’re clients and dogs will benefit more than you realize.”
“I cannot say enough about K9 Connection. My dog had terrible resource aggression and they worked hard to change his way of thinking and also educating us on ways to handle it. I have to say my dog is so well behaved and is a joy to be around. Anytime I have questions they are always there to help.”
