Engage your dog’s natural instinct to use their nose while having fun!
Scent Class is a great opportunity for dogs to use their natural instincts and develop skills along with building deeper bonds with owners. More advanced students can even train their dogs to search for commonly lost items such as car keys or cell phones! Searches will take place indoors, outdoors, and beyond!
The class will also teach owners about scent detection sports and the benefits of teaching your dogs scenting games: increase dog’s engagement with the owner, give dog mental enrichment, an outlet for dogs who naturally enjoy sniffing (hounds, shepherds, really all breeds). This class will be based on NACSW rules and philosophies.
Benefits of Scent Class:
- Owners learn to read their dog’s body language when searching – assisting both in scent-work and everyday life with their dog.
- Dogs and owners are introduced to the three core scents in all scent-work venues (Birch, Anise, Clove), and the four basic search elements (Container, Interior, Exterior, Vehicles).
- Dogs easily burn lots of mental & physical energy doing searches
- Provides much needed mental enrichment for any dog
- Searches can be done anywhere you can take your dog
- Shy or fearful dogs build confidence and overactive dogs put their energy into fun searches
- Stronger bond between dog & handler as you learn to observe, understand, and rely on your dog.
- Learn a great activity for rainy and cold days to relieve your dog of excess energy
- Mental enrichment helps to prevent and resolve behavioral problems
Dogs must have be current with Rabies, DHPP, and Kennel Cough vaccines, and need to be at least 6 months of age or older. Reactive or disruptive dogs may be removed from the program.
