Behavior Consultations are conducted by Canine Behavior Specialist Tyler Muto. Tyler specializes in aggression and socialization, and consults with dog owners to resolve various forms of pathological behavior. These consultations are for dogs displaying serious behavior problems beyond general bad manners and disobedience. Those who have dogs who require obedience training, or who display common household problems such as jumping, chewing, pulling on leash etc. will better served in our Board and Train or Private lesson Packages.
Behavior problems are complex and every dog/owner situation is unique. During the evaluation, Tyler will thoroughly assess each dog, as well as the dog-human relationship for a number of factors: What is the dog’s disposition? How much of the behavior is genetic versus learned? What factors in the dog’s environment might be contributing to the behavior? What is the dog responsive to and where can we find leverage to create the change we need? Is the way you are living with your dog potentially contributing to their imbalance?
The evaluation lasts a full day. You will drop your dog off around 9:00am, Tyler will work with your dog for several hours, and you will return later in the day for a consultation.
In many cases Tyler is able to give you practical and effective advice about changes you can make right away to start seeing progress. Tyler’s goal is always to help you to see the world from your dog’s perspective. When you can understand how your dog thinks and interprets the world, you will be in a much better position to resolve the behavior issues.
Many people are able to adequately resolve their dog’s behavior after this single consultation. In other cases, Tyler will recommend the most efficient path forward involving our other training programs.
Our unique Board and Train program provides all the benefits of typical in-kennel professional training, without having to be separated from your dog for long periods of time. Our unique approach to behavioral wellness focuses on helping your dog achieve balance through instinctual fulfillment and enrichment as well as traditional training and behavior modification techniques.
For a period of 3 to 6 weeks, your pup will stay at our training center Monday through Friday, and will receive customized, hands-on instruction by our expert staff. At the end of each week, you will pick your dog up and receive a short training lesson to provide you with exercises you can practice with your dog over the weekend.
This hybrid approach has many benefits over a traditional long-term Board and Train programs. Most importantly, by receiving weekly instruction and practice, you will be sure that your dog will listen and behave for you at the end of the program. Having you spend the weekends with your dog also allows us to receive feedback from you regarding both areas of success, and areas that need more attention, thereby helping us to continuously customize your dog’s training. By the end of the program you will have a firm grasp of the skills and effort needed to ensure long-term success for you and your pup.
For those seeking obedience training, we will focus on the core commands of Sit, Down, Come, Heel, and Place (go to bed). All commands will be performed by your dog both on and off leash. For those seeking behavior modification, we will focus only on specific commands that will impact the target behavior problem, spending greater time addressing the underlying causes of the problem behavior. All programs focus heavily on physical exercise and mental enrichment as the cornerstone for emotional and behavioral wellness.
